Ultimate Spider-Man & Reboot's Budget $80 Million?

Riskey Business is reporting that the Spider-Man reboot's budget could be around $80 Million. Thats a rather large difference from Spider-Man 4's estimated $230 Million. While most people think a summer tentpole film like Spider-Man would need between $150-200 Million to compete with over films, it might not be the case. The $80 Million dollar budget might be small to most directors but Marc Webb was able to make 500 Days of Summer for $7.5 Million. Sony/Columbia will more than likely get more for their investment with Webb. Riskey confirms that "Ultimate Spider-Man" comics will be in the influence for the new films not the comics from the 60's.

"The touchstone for the new movie will not be the 1960s comics, which were the inspiration behind the movies by Raimi, who grew on up on them, but rather this past decade’s “Ultimate Spider-Man” comics by Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Bagley where the villain-fighting took a back seat to the high school angst."

District 9 is a great example of small budget summer film that impressed and gave serious competition. That film was made for as little as $30 Million even with the large digital effects needed for it. Even the largely praised Moon which had many effects shots only costing $5 Million. It seems like effects are costing less and the real money goes to high priced directors, crews and actors. It makes sense that Sony would want to clean house for the reboot.
