UPDATE: Sgt. Rock (2010-2011)

It looks like Guy Ritchie is off Sgt. Rock more than likely to focus attentions on Lobo, Sherlock Holmes 2 and possibly The Real RockNRolla. Since the project has been on hold with producer Joel Silver's involvement. DC Entertainment looks to be pushing the film without Ritchie.

They have hired director Francis Lawrence, who recently directed both Constantine and I Am Legend. Along with a new script written by Chad St. John, who wrote the remake of Outlander. Sgt. Rock is originally set during WWII and it seems that the plan is to have the film set in the future. Although with the success of Inglourious Basterds and the upcoming Captain America, it seems that WWII action films could become a trend.

The project has been in development for years. Arnold Schwarzenegger was once attached to star as Sgt. Rock. John McTiernan director of Die Hard and Predator was going to helm it. Steven de Souza wrote the script, who also wrote Commando, Die Hard, Die Hard 2, 48 Hours and The Running Man. I'm surprised the film was never made.

CASTING THOUGHT

I could see Sam Worthington as Sgt. Rock. Worthington is setting himself up as major player in the action film genre. He's already starred in Terminator Salvation in which he was the best aspect of the film. Along with upcoming lead roles in Avatar and Clash of The Titans. He's also rumored for the lead in Disney's upcoming 20, 000 Legues Under The Sea as Captain Nemo and for Mad Max 4: Fury Road as Max Rockatansky.
