Wolverine 2 (2011-2012)

It's official, 20th Century Fox and Hugh Jackman are moving forward with the sequel. Jackman will develop the project with his production company. It's rumored that Oscar winning screenwriter Simon Beaufoy (Slumdog Millionaire) had been approached to write the screenplay. At this point it's unknown if Beaufoy will take on the project. Gavin Hood will more than likely be replaced after the massive critical bashing Origins has received from fans and critics alike. Zack Snyder's name has been attached a few times first with The Last Stand and again with Origins. Snyder opted to make Watchmen instead but could direct the sequel. He's currently working with Jackman on animated film Guardians of Ga'Hoole. Logan's Japanese years involved assassins, the Yakuza, samurai and a few love stories. I think this would make for an amazing film. There is also a possibility of a rematch between Wolverine and Lady Deathstrike. I assume development already is in progress and the sequel might be ready for a summer release in 2011 or 2012.

Casting/Character Thoughts

Hiroyuki Sanada (Sunshine, Last Samurai) as Kenuichio Harada aka Silver Samurai: it's already assumed he'll end up the main villain but could also end up becoming an ally as well.

Ken Watanabe (Batman Begins) as Shingen Harada and Chiaki Kuriyama (Battle Royale, Kill Bill) as Mariko Yashida: Shingen is the father of both Mariko and Kenuichio Harada. Mariko ends up Logan's Japanese fiancée.

Other Japanese Enemies

Kelly Hu or Maggie Q (Die Hard 4, M.I.3) as Yuriko Oyama aka Lady Deathstrike: Deathstrike is a criminal scientist who attempts to genetically modify herself to have similar powers to Logan. The sequel could focus on her quest to give herself the same healing factor/immortality he processes. I could see Maggie Q replacing Kelly Hu, if she isn't able to reprise the role.

The Hand: An order of ninja that have existed for 800 years. The mystical ninja are heavily involved in organized crime and mercenary activities such as assassination plots.

Yakuza:
Wolverine has battled the Japanese criminal underworld on a few occasions and the Yakuza could have involvement either Silver Samurai or Shingen Harada.
